Monitoring of the Third NGO Fair

The Media dedicated 12.51% of its space for Fair

The NGO Fair - Third Forum of the Civil Society in Macedonia, that took place from 20 to 22 November 2003, was an occasion for the NGO Infocentre to organize monitoring of several electronic media and all daily newspapers in Macedonian. The goal of the monitoring was to have an insight in the quantity and quality coverage of the events organized by the media during the NGO Fair.

From the electronic media, the Infocentre chose MTV and the national TV stations - A1 and Sitel. As the Infocentre informed, after they had followed all information programmes, they came to the result in the period between 20 and 22 November, the national stations, have shown the total of ten reports related to the Fair. And, of the 48 events that took place at the NGO Fair, the media covered only five, which is only 10.42% of the total number of events.

As far as the printed media are concerned, the Infocentre analyzed all daily newspapers in Macedonian: Utrinski Vesnik, Dnevnik, Vest, Makedonija denes, Vecer and Nova Makedonija. The monitoring was conducted in the period between the 19 and the 24 November. These media dedicated 18 articles to the Fair, and of the 48 events organized at the Fair, the articles covered 7, that is 14.6 %.

According to this, the Infocentre came to the result that the electronic and the printed media covered the NGO Fair events with only 12.51%.

The NGO Infocentre is a joint project of the OHO Centre for Media Development and the Gender Unit for Documentation and Informing, and it is financially supported by FOSIM and the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation. The Infocentre services are free for all civic associations.
