  Issue 35  People

People: Violeta Petrovska

I fight, lobby, persuade, make friends - fellow travellers/lifetime companions

Professional experience: Graduated at the Faculty of Law, long-term practical experience.

Engagement in the civic sector: President and founder of the women organization "Kumanovka" that engages in activities for promoting the women position in the legal system of RM, by developing the civil society, the civic self-awareness, human rights, political culture, multiculture and gender equality. Recently, she has become a coordinator of MZL - Kumanovo. She is also a member of the local government and the board of the "Women Centre - 21st Century Woman".

Hobbies and interests: Readng expert literature, travelling in developed democratic countries.

Ambitions: I strive for changes, I fight, lobby, persuade, make friends - fellow travellers, follow the public and the media reactions and I ask for their constant support. I see the fruits of my efforts ripe, I climb higher and higher but not alone. I have with me a number of people who see things the way I see them and strive for a just society with open doors, even for those on the margins.

In her free time she reads: Expert literature and daily newspapers.

Where does she go in her free time: I do not have much free time, but when I can, I appoint meetings with my friends at "Candy" in Kumanovo.

At weekends: If I am not professionally engaged I stay at home with my family, with my husband and my sons who are students and who I pay much attention.

Which national/local problem does she find especially important and why: In the Republic of Macedonia there are many problems, but there's no one to solve them. Some of the essential problems are those related to the corruption, treachery and crime. It turns out that such problems pay more than the decent job for a certain category of people. What I said about the problems on national level, refers to the problems of local character as well, because citizens cannot realize/accomplish their rights.

Which global problem does she find especially important and why: I see a global problem in the non-rule of law, which undermines the democracy on one hand and slows down the development of our civil society. The human security is violated through the various forms of terrorism, trafficking with people, drugs and weapons and especially through the corruption and the great flow of uncontrolled profit from the above-mentioned criminal activities.

What would she change in Macedonia and the world: With efficient fight of the institutions of the system, the present milieu needs to be changed in a way that an end will be put to the terrorism, trafficking with people, weapons, etc. Only then the citizens can live peacefully. Regarding the economy of the country, I think that the entrepreneurship, especially the small and medium-size enterprises have to start living, employing new workers. By opening new possibilities for employment, people can earn for their living and regularly pay the contributions and the tax from the salaries to the country.

Advice/message: We have had enough of philosophy. Let's start working on the above-mentioned.

I could never: Imagine the face of Plato Karataev from the novel "War and Peace" by Tolstoy who talks about luck and qualifies it in a happy manner: "Luck is a ...bucket which, when soaked in the well and pulled up, feels heavy, which means that it is full. However, when I pull it out of the well, it is already empty".
