Open government through decentralization
On 25 and 26 march this year in Skopje, a National Conference called "Building open government through decentralization" took place. The goal of the conference was to encourage the process of building open government in Macedonia through transferring the authorities from the central to the local government, as well as to encourage dialogue between the authorities and the civil society in Macedonia for building an open government through increased informing, consultations and public participation.
The conference was organized by the Ministry of Local Self-Government and the Open Society Institute Macedonia Foundation. The World Bank, OSIMF and the USAID Project for Local Government Reforms.
Three round tables will take place within the conference: "The legal framework for the civil society, approach to information and administrative documents"; "Systems and methods for providing citizen rights and the civic participation" and "How can the social dialogue and transparency strengthen the productivity and the local development", as well as several panel discussions on: "Civil society views, the social dialogue and decentralization"; ICT, transparency and local self-government" and "Decentralization, social dialogue and transparency: Local self-government implementation in Macedonia", followed by practical examples from our country.
Several experts, university professors, government representatives, NGO representatives, European Commission Delegation representatives, World Bank, USAID and others, took part at the conference.
