“MOST” conference in Struga

The rulebook on elections should change

The civil society association “MOST”, in cooperation with the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Macedonia and OSCE monitoring mission in Skopje held a three-day conference this summer in Struga, dedicated to improving the election process and overcoming the irregularities that occur at elections. The participants at the conference all agreed that a fair and democratic election process is the first condition for social and political stability and development of every country, especially when it comes to the young democracies such as the Republic of Macedonia. According to them, the election processes that were carried out in the country in the past, showed a number of flaws and irregularities, both in the legislation and its implementation. . In that sense, the general conclusion that comes out of the conference was the need to consider changes in the Election Code.

The final goal of the discussions at the Conference was to provide a set of amendments to the election code, to provide stronger institutional and legal frame for efficient implementation of the election process.
